Father*Thomas O'Dea b. circa 1778
Mother*Ellen _____
Ellen Day was born in January, 1816 in County Limerick. Although the census records show a variety of dates for her birth, the 1860 Federal Census estimates her birth date as 1820. In addition, her tombstone indiactes that she was born in 1816. Because she appears to have been born last, this leads to the suggestion that a younger sister Ellen, born circa 1798, died.1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas O'Dea and Ellen _____. Ellen Day married Timothy Dorsey, son of Patrick Dorsey and Margaret _____, on February 14, 1847 in County Limerick.3 Ellen Day died on April 18, 1904 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, at age 88.2 She was buried in St. Patrick Cemetery, Henry, Marshall County, Illinois.2
She and Timothy Dorsey immigrated on July 2, 1849 to New York, New York. Timothy and Ellen Dorsey arrived in New York on the Ivanhoe. No children are listed in the manifest. The name is listed as Dacey in the index. Notice that the O'Dea surname was changed to Day almost immediately.4 Ellen Day witnessed the marriage of David Hickey and Mary Agnes Day on November 13, 1866 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois. Witnesses were Thomas Brown and Helena Darsey.5,6
