Mary Ryan was born in March, 1858 in Stark County, Illinois. Although the 1900 Federal census lists Mary's birth date as March 1864, this is impossible since she was listed on the census of 1860 as being two years old. The assumption is that the 1900 census taker wrote 1864 instead of 1854. Note, however, that she and her sister Bridget could not both have been born in 1854. The date here reflects the 1860 Census that states she was born in 1858.1,2 She was the daughter of John Ryan and Winiford (Winnie) Ryan. Mary Ryan married Jacob Zimmer, son of Adam Zimmer and Eliza Stinger, on April 8, 1885 in Stark County, Illinois.3 Mary Ryan died on October 28, 1924 in Jamaica, Guthrie County, Iowa, at age 66. She was buried in St. Mary Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa.
